It’s a lot thinner than breast milk and it almost has a golden tint to it, so it’s actually called liquid gold. This is great for all babies. We want all babies to try to get some colostrum in the first few days to help with their immune system. After that, breast milk supply actually increases to about the six-week mark, and then it kind of stabilizes at that point. At six months, it drops to about half. This is fine – breast milk supply will increase, babies will get more and more, they will need more and more, and then at 6 months it’ll drop to half. But babies should be eating solid food by that point, and that will help with the rest of the nutrition. We want moms to try to breastfeed for as long as possible – two years, four years.
